Scripture Around Giving That’s Impacted Me

To help my attitude when I support-raise (and in general):

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. If you do this, you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

To remind me that giving is a vertical act to and from God rather than a horizontal act among people:

(Paul’s description of the gifts of the Philippians): “They are a sweet-smelling sacrifice that is acceptable to God and pleases him.” Philippians 4:18

God’s promise to those who give:

“And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19

The attitude of the giver which pleases God:

“Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” II Corinthians 9:7

Some of the results of giving:

“When we take your gifts to those who need them, they will break out in thanksgiving to God. So two good things will happen- the needs of the Christians in Jerusalem will be met, and they will joyfully express their thanksgiving to God. You will be glorifying God through your generous gifts. For your generosity to them will prove that you are obedient to the Good News of Christ. And they will pray for you with deep affection because of the wonderful grace of God shown through you.”

To help me trust in God’s provision:

“For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the Lord gives rain on the land.’” I Kings 17:14 (See whole story)

To remind me of the worth and validity of my calling:

“Take no bag for the journey, or extra tunic, or sandals or a staff; for the worker is worth his keep.” Matthew 10:10

To help me with confidence in stepping out and asking for support:

“It pleased the king to send me.” Nehemiah 2:6

To learn contentness:

“I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.”
